Neusilber-Hirschfänger

A very rare and intricately decorated 19th century stag hunt dagger with a cross-cut stag antler handle. The silver-plated cross-guard features a shell-engraved blade. The full-length blade is etched with hunting scenes almost the entire length. Inside a forest landscape, a hunter is shown in the act of shooting with a bounding dog chasing a bird that has fallen to the ground. On the inside, a stag is shown fleeing from a hunting dog. All framed by foliage and hunting accessories. The blade spine is etched with foliage. The blackened leather scabbard features silver-plated mounts and a space for a small knife. The original small knife is more corroded on the inside and is stamped by the Solingen company "J.A. Henckels AG" (1731 - 2000).
