Since the EU firearms directives 91/477/EWG and 93/15/EWG had to be implemented by all EU member states through national laws on firearm acquisition, possession and storage, the EU-wide trade in weapons has become remarkably simple.

Here is an example of a sale from Germany to Austria:

1. The seller sends the buyer the necessary data for reporting the weapon (i.a. weapon type, model, weapon number, name, address, place and date of birth, telephone and/or fax number, etc).
2. The buyer must first have the authorization approved (Form "Application for Authorization …").
   He then fills out the form "Consent Declaration according to §37 Abs.3 WaffG 1996 for the transfer of weapons/ammunition to the Republic of Austria" (or the equivalent for his country). Submitting his passport and firearms-related document (weapons pass, WBK, WEB), he applies for the import at his weapons authority (The fees for this currently - August 2010 - in Austria amount to €56.20).
   He sends this form in the original (by registered mail) along with copies of his firearms-related document (weapons pass, WBK, WEB) and his passport to the seller and pays the weapon price plus the seller's administrative fees (see below) and shipping costs.
3. The seller now completes the form valid for his country, "Authorization under §31 Abs.1 WaffG for the transfer of firearms/ammunition according to Annex 1 Section 3 WaffG from the Federal Republic of Germany" (or the equivalent for his country), and applies for the export with these two forms and his documents, i.e., photo ID (ID card or passport) and firearms document (WP, WBK, WEB) to his weapons authority. This is also subject to a fee, currently costing €65 in Germany for private individuals and for companies.
   At the same time, he can have the weapon struck off his firearms-related document. After receiving the payment, he sends the weapon(s) and the documents (the originals always belong in the respective country, so the German form remains in Germany, the Austrian form is included in the original shipment) to the buyer and notifies him by phone/email. And don't forget to rate the seller on eGun.
4. The buyer confirms (by phone/email) receipt of the goods, has the weapon(s) officially registered (and again pays the corresponding fee), and finally rates the seller on eGun.
